Lachung is a mountain village close to the Tibetan border, in the northeastern Indian state of Sikkim. It's divided by the Lachung River. The village is home to the 19th-century Buddhist Lachung Monastery, surrounded by apple orchards. Nearby, the Yumthang Valley's Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary protects many species of rhododendron.
The valley is also known for its waterfalls, pine forests and hot springs. The word Lachung means "small pass" and the most famous place near Lachung is Yumthang Valley and the name brings one thing in mind, Flowers. 'Yumthang' means “Valley of flowers' in the local language.

How to reach
You can reach Lachung in North Sikkim from NJP Railway station or Bagdogra airport if you are coming via West Bengal, and Gangtok airport if you are coming by air via Gangtok. It is around 260 KM from Siliguri and takes around 12 - 13 hours, Around 140 KMs from Gangtok and takes around 5 - 6 hours. But you should never try to reach Lachung directly from Siliguri because of the distance, high altitude and the hectic journey. You should obtain pass (Inner Line Permit) from Gangtok office before starting your journey towards Lachung, North Sikkim
