The Chilapata Forest is a dense forest near Jaldapara National Park in Dooars, Alipurduar district, West Bengal, India. It is about 40 km from Alipurduar, and just a few minutes away from Hasimara town. The major attraction of Chilapata is the forest and its wildlife. Forest safari in Jeep is available inside the forest. Sighting of Indian Bison (Gaur), Elephant, Rhino, Leopard, Deers, and various types of birds are most common here.
Our homestay in Chilapata is located in a small village named Mendabari situated on the edge of the Chilapata forest. The property has two wooden building, with total accomodation of 6 rooms out of which 4 rooms are NON-AC and 2 rooms are AC rooms. The 1st floor room interior is decorated with real bamboo, to preserve the flavour of nature and the ground floor rooms are built with modern style fitted with Air Conditioners. Each of the six rooms is equipped with a king sized bed and attached toilet fitted with geyser.
The site also has a fully equipped kitchen that serves delicious meals at breakfast, lunch and dinner throughout the day, as well as optional barbecue and bonfire.
If you are nature lover and love to feel the sound of the silence, this is the place for you. So, if you would love to enjoy the darkness of forests after evening you can sit at the balcony and keep listening to different types of sounds from animals and have a thrilling experience altogether.
How to reach
There are various ways to reach Chilapata. The nearest railway station is Hasimara or Alipurduar, though the railway route via Hasimara goes through Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary, Chapramari Forest and Jaldapara National park so it is so beautiful to watch from the window of the train you are traveling in. The property is only 20 KM around from Hasimara and takes only 30 - 45 mins by car, 40 KM around from Alipurduar and takes around 1 - 1.5 hours by car and alway can be reached from Siliguri which is around 140 KM and takes 4 - 5 hours approx.Â
